Qualified Cold Chain Packaging – Yes, It’s Necessary….

July 26, 2017

Lakewood, Colorado, July 26, 2017 – If a pharmacy wants to have access to limited-distribution products and payer coverage, accreditation is nearly mandatory. It was recently announced that URAC was 1 of 2 approved accreditations for health plans as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, better known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA).1

As most pharmacists know, URAC has changed some of their standards, calling for qualified cold chain packaging. This was determined because many packaging offerings do not prevent the medications from freezing in transit. URAC is trying to prevent this issue.

Mesa’s Qualification Reports and Pack-Out SOP’s are documents that you can send to URAC as part of the accreditation application. Pharmacies can utilize these documents upon their first accreditation as well as their re-certifications every 3 years.

Mesa offers a full cold chain solution, making your accreditation process easier. Check out our full line of cold chain products and services at http://coldchain.mesalabs.com/.

We will also be exhibiting at the NACDS Total Store Expo, August 19 – 22, 2017, in San Diego, California. To learn more about our offerings, please visit our booth – #2200.
