Proactive DataTrace Interface Service

November 22, 2017

November 22, 2017, Lakewood, Colorado – Unlike DataTrace data loggers, reader interfaces do not require regular service. However, interfaces do have a performance curve. It is common for dust to settle in the port, and the optical components can naturally weaken over time.

Interfaces communicate with data loggers via infrared LEDs, designed in a circular pattern to allow for communication from any rotational position. This circle has 4 main sections: 90 degrees each. As the interface ages and is exposed to normal wear and tear, it is possible for one or more of these sections to fail. An in-field test may be performed to identify interface failure. The suggested method includes testing the logger multiple times, at various rotations to determine the good versus bad spots relative to the LEDs. On MPIII logger models the LEDs are behind the two small, round windows. On MPRF logger models, the LEDs are through the amber housing on the board where orange wire connections are visible.

If you find that your interface isn’t performing the way it used to, please contact us for a service quote. Standard service includes a thorough cleaning, applicable repairs, and any available hardware upgrades. We also have interfaces for rent.
